Uganda on Saturday, June 22, started their campaign at the 2019 African Nations Cup on an impressive note beating DR Congo 2-0.
DR Congo began the match with great finesse with the likes of Everton forward Yannick Bolasie leading their attack, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Farouk Miya of Uganda made a dangerous cross in the third minute, but none of his teammates were able to connect with the ball.
And two minutes later, it was the turn of DR Congo as Chancel Mbamba made a good run at the left flank, only for Uganda defender Hasaan Wasswa to clear the danger for his nation.
Uganda scored their first goal in the 14th minute when Farouk Miya made a superb assist which Patrick Kaddu headed home to beat goalkeeper Ley Matampi.
DR Congo tried all they could to make sure they restore parity in the first half, but Uganda goalie Denis Onyango was so superb as the first half eventually ended 1-0.
The Cranes changed their pattern in the second half and it took them only three minutes to score the second goal through Emmanuel Okwi who was also assisted by Farouk Miya.
There was a chance for Arthur Masuaku to score for DR Congo in the 60th minute, but he was denied as his shot was saved by Onyanga as the match ended 2-0.
